This development comprises 185 residential apartments contained within rc framed structures ranging from 6 to 19 storeys. The development is part of a greater regeneration scheme. Our earlier involvement on this project included pre-planning advice on Kick Start Site 4. Block F signifies Gravity Consulting Engineers’ continued involvement in the regeneration project, reflecting a consistent performance on our part.
The design on this site was complicated because very little consideration had been given to structure in the pre-planning stages of the development. Column coordination took some time before it was complete. The final column arrangement comprised columns at close centres on the façade, positioned to match architectural cladding fins. This way the column sizes were minimised to hide them behind the fins, leaving a façade of strong architectural features, uninterrupted by columns.
Good teamwork with Hawkins Brown was crucial, and once the columns were fixed we were able to deliver a comprehensive set of drawings along with RC details and fully weighted reinforcement schedules within the space of eight weeks, allowing our client to go to tender with a good degree of cost certainty. Drawings were issued for tender to a construction standard, identifying every element including all blockwork, steelwork, and cast in items.
